Chairman of Kazakh Agency for Religious Affairs Kairat Lama Sharif met with media representatives at the Presidential Center of Culture in Astana.The meeting was held to present the newly established agency for religious affairs. This agency intends to raise public awareness in the field of citizens' rights to freedom of religion; develop proposals to improve legislation for religious associations; organize and conduct activities that promote stability and spiritual enlightenment of Kazakhstani society. Special attention will be paid to the prevention of religious extremism.
It was stressed that every citizen of Kazakhstan has the right to freedom of conscience and choice. In this case, the Chairman of the Agency said that he made a choice that is objective and based on the principle of "One nation - one religion." According to Kairat Lama Sharif, the Agency will develop the concept "On the development of moderate Islam in Kazakhstan."


In Almaty 8-9 of may at hotel "Parasat" was held an exhibition of the Arabian calligraphy. The presentation of the translation of Koran into Kazakh and English languages were held within the limit of the exhibition.
The ceremony, held along a blocked-off portion of Madison Avenue, marked the start of the American Muslim Day Parade on Sunday, an annual event, first held in 1985, that brings together Muslims of many ethnicities and nationalities who worship in the New York region.
