Cathedral mosque of Astana to open its doors by Dec 2011
One of the unique buildings in Astana, the cathedral mosque, which is located near the Palace of Independence and the Palace of Peace and Accord, will open its doors to the faithful by December of this year.
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev surveyed the progress of construction of the mosque on Thursday.
Construction works began in October 2010. The mosque can hold more than 5,000 people. According to Board Chairman of the Turkish company Sembol Construction Aytekin Gultekin, the project cost is KZT 10 billion. The mosque is built in the Islamic classical style.
